Existential Questions Poem by Aaron Marchant

Existential Questions

Rating: 5.0

Can we craft a world of earth and water?
Build a life on piles of shifting sand?
Make a home that's fit for son and daughter?
Retain the fortitude the tasks demand?

Can we exchange our hubris for humility
and work without an accolade in mind?
See beyond the profit to utility
and extend it to the whole of humankind?

Can we face an arduous tomorrow,
stand up straight and look it in the eye?
Overcome the struggle and the sorrow,
to rise again as scripture would imply?

Can we see beyond our own endeavours
and consider generations yet to come?
Ensure we take the necessary measures
to leave behind a world worth passing on?

Can we turn the page on ancient history
and leave it where it's surely meant to be?
Become pilgrims worthy of the mystery,
unhitch the raft and point it to the sea?
