Extinction Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Extinction

I am not pessimist
I am not pessimist
I am not pessimist

But I know
Sure I know
(Not enough)

I know of the Mammoths
And I know dinosaurs
And pigeons
And much more

They’re extinct
Don’t exist

They were killed
By nature
By greed for power
And by us; humans
(Worst of all)

We used them and abused
Horse we rode
Bull plowed
And pigeons took message

Then we made gun, engine
And used them, destroyed

I recall the snow
White, fresh, like bride
When bells rang
She arrived in a church

I recall when sun rose
In sky, high above
And when went

I saw it with no line of cables
Beauty in full size, in fullness

I’m ashamed to drive
I have car
I too, am polluter
Monoxide and rubber

I’m ashamed
I wear shoes and jersey
I pollute
Plastic

I am not pessimist
I am not pessimist
I am not pessimist

It’s the time
For mankind
We’re mammoths
We must join dinosaur

Is there line?
I am first!
