Eyes Can'T Lie Poem by Brian Sonberg

Eyes Can'T Lie

Lost at sea….hundreds of miles from where words could sting
Finding solitude only brings thoughts…memories
Words replaced …the sting of sea spray and absent skin
Memories of warmth and a smile that melts me
Falling over backward
Forgetting to let go of the deep breath just taken in
I left these shores to run
Knowing I would never forget

Smile fades
Replaced by a sweeter sadness
A questioning
Listening to the rain
Trying to pick out patterns in the waves
Nothing seems to make sense
The only answer seems to be a smile
Now a memory
Accompanied by eyes that always knew
So much deeper than the sea they mimic

Where to go from here
The answers never close at hand
There is a peace in memories
A pain in the absence
Forgetting how to smile
I find the desire to learn again
