Facade Poem by Michael Burgess

Facade

Have you ever questioned
The plethora of knowledge that we speak of?
All those stories that were mentioned in our textbooks.
You know the ones from hundreds of years ago,
We go in blindly believing every word that they wrote.
We eat it up,
But what else would you expect?
The best of stories come from behind the cameras and the sets
If I wrote a letter and kept it under my desk
Claiming to be president
In 200 hundreds years, do you think they'd be impressed
If they every found this piece of paper covered in plenty of lies
But they'll never notice the truth that's in disguise.
We're all living a facade fueled by the many lies
Of the people who plan to stay in power
And the people who own all the money and the all greatest towers.
