German 'planes roared over
The southern cliffs of Dover
I heard their monotone
That scary awesome drone
In nineteen forty/forty-one.
The bombs came hurtling down
Across the flaming town
How noisy was the barrage gun
As searchlights traced the Hun
In nineteen forty/forty-one.
Oh what horrors I could tell
But hush! I must forget the hell
Happiness is now in line
No more war, just peace sublime
In the coming year ~ 2009.
