Faded Chances Poem by Jennifer Sollmann

Faded Chances

Broken and faded
Is her fragile heart
She doesn’t know
She can’t decide
Her heart crushed
By young love
She can’t fathom
Love again
He smiles
She blushes
Fear fills her mind
He might hurt her
He swears he never will
With a sad smile
She tells him he only thinks so
Hurt, he is silent
She grasps his hand quickly
Gives it a squeeze
Then turns and walks away
He watches her
Despair in his eyes
He runs after her
Please, I’m not like the other guys
Just one chance?
She stops
Gives him a pitying look
Her eyes say she is sorry
And she walks off again
Thinking to herself
I’m not ready
I can’t love again
I still love him
He owns me
I’m nothing in his eyes
But he is everything in mine
The boy’s heart sinks
Confused, he fidgets
Why can’t she see
I’ve always loved her
She is my everything
And I am her nothing
He goes his way
Thinking of her
And she goes her way
Thinking of him
Who holds her heart
