Fair Time Poem by Gloria Valencourt

Fair Time

September sings a sonnet
To a May Queen in a Forest
She's fallen from her kingdom
Raped in perfect season

A werewolf and a butterfly
Welcome spring time's symphony
Siphon joy upon a wind song
And they carry me

Affronted sapphire flurries
From a time long passed
Whisper Latin to a mirror
Fogged with shame

I see the nymph alone
Rapping a drum, splendorous gold
The giants and the angels
Drunk on dusk's horizon

Turn their eyes to screens
Littered with electricity, garnished
With paper, fools searching
For masterpieces cinematic.

A saint smiles faintly
As a limb shatters underfoot
He'll die restoring glass shards
To a transparent menagerie

A blank picture flickers
Above, a street collapses
The lion prowls relentlessly
A pirate staggers in the wind

The flag lifts in surrender
A snake hangs limply on a nail
True beauty is destroyed
The artist clicks his pen.

The bruised summer fades
The earth falls apart
Autographing a contract
Chiseling away their epitaph.
