Fairy Tales - Poem by Aminath Neena

You make me think of fairy tales
Believe in loony trails
of jewelled crowns
and golden gowns
of mahogany twilights
and ivory starlights
of the rippling moon
in a crystal lagoon
of twinkling stars
and silver guitars
of dancing fairies
and singing canaries
of floral tiaras
and colourful bandanas
of Cinderella and Prince Charming
on a starry night's waltzing

but of course- every time- -
the clock strikes that chime

at sorrowful midnight's dawn
I come back to my own- -

a simpleton, by all means
away from fantasies and dreams

Only tear drops to wean- -
On a familiar plastic screen- -
