Fairy Tales Poem by francesca zumbo

Fairy Tales

Relinquish past fables,
Starry nights and all
With tinker bell taped to her walls
Child-like visions
Are encased.
But let go of shooting laughter
Leave the impulse for the stars
Place old memories on the table
Let them collect dust and fade
And when you’re feeling unnoticed,
And you want to shine like a sapphire
Pick up where you left off
Retrieve all your rubies and gold
Your most priceless possessions, the ones in your mind
And blow, blow, blow
Run your fingers along the edge
Study the vase, the sweeping, articulately blown vase
And then cry
Your tears become water and slide off your face
Slowly, you fill the well
And things start to reappear
Like voices from a thousand interstates away
Fragile, low, broken
Beautiful, sorrow, spoken
His eyes tore themselves apart
And his lips quivered with serous fluid
He was neither here nor there
And I told him
You are but a construct in my mind
I said,
Dream lover don’t die
Visions play out wild fantasies
As you fall your head asleep
