Falada Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Falada

Falada, Falada, thou art dead
and all the joy in my life has fled

Did you see it? Did you see it?
The horse head bleeding over the actor's bed
In ‘The Godfather' film
That infamous movie based on the Mafia
A horse, decapitated in the name of Art

Man drags his animals into all his projects
Wars, gambling, transport,
(Pets, though are a breed apart)

Eight million horsesdied in World War one
Blown to smithereens by shell and gun
Drowned in mud, or bellies bursting
Fly blown in the cruel sun
