False Claim Poem by Dr Igbinedion Obaretin

False Claim

The arrows thrust against my shadow, the innumerable
Flights of dark wings across the sea all nights, hovering
Over my roof with itching claws, blood thirsting throats
Of greedy cannibals and vultures desiring my cool flesh,
A tantalizing meal they will never have, even in a dream.

The conspiracy of dark forces, pythons and vipers
Of the darkest waters and pits, rattling menacingly
Making claims to sacrifices of treacherous bond;
Smearing, blackmailing my being with false claim
To the soul never bending, except to the divine.

Where are the archives of your false claim?
Why do you parade them only in the dark?
Bring them to the Light for scrutiny,
Bring them before the jury of the divine.
Surely, truth eludes your claims – all souls are
But for one Lord of the universe;
His lordship over all you cannot deny.
