Falthering Father Poem by michael Smajda

Falthering Father

Why can't you be like an angel
Instead of who you really are-
A shameful, staggering, drunken fool,
Always the last one to leave the bar.

Why can't you leave the booze alone
That intoxicates your frame so much
It drives away those who love you,
They seldom ever keep in touch.

Why can't you be the dad I want
So dearly to be so proud of
Instead of the angel gone astray,
Too, alcoholic for me to love.
