Fata Morgana Poem by Roberto Ottoboni

Fata Morgana

O! Fata Morgana, my Morgan La Fay!
Whenst thou found me, twas a doleful day,
Twas a day of woe and dark despair,
But alas! I knew not, whenst thou found me there!

O Fata Morgana, thy visage was fair
Like to a model's, with long auburn hair
And skin that was pale like it never saw day!
I spoke in the night-time, with Morgan La Fay.

Thy words were like honey, so golden and sweet,
You promised me truly, one day we would meet,
Tho you were away from me, so far away!
Thou saidst that thou yearned for me, Morgan La Fay.

O Fata Morgana, I did thee adore!
But cruel lies they have parted us for evermore.
Whose they were I know not, but I hope and I pray,
Thou never deceived me, O Morgan La Fay.

In my heart I know now, what the man said was true,
That beautiful vision, was not really you,
Thou wast an enchanteress, weaving her spell
Sending poor men like me unto hell!

My heart is now broken, so shattered and dead!
All my illusions were all in my head,
But my stubborn soul longs to join thee one day,
O Fata Morgana, my Morgan La Fay!
