Father Of Modern Fiji Poem by Monesh Kumar

Father Of Modern Fiji

(A Tribute to Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, leader of Fiji)

A star is very special
As it shines brilliantly at night
Although being so many miles away
It still shines arrogantly and bright
A star we had on our soil once
Known as the “Father of Modern Fiji”
Though gone so many years ago
His name still shines illustriously with glee
He foresaw Fiji as a multi-racial society
And he formulated our country
To face the existing reality
We would be living a life so dim
But where we stand today is all thanks to him
He is remembered everywhere
Remembered even in our attire
As he introduced the “sulu-vakatanga”
And earned his name even higher
He considered the Indians also
As the brood of this soil
Thus establishing the NLTB
And helped them escape the toil
And here we are gathered today
To honor that noble being
Who entirely altered Fiji’s way
Altered the mess we might now be seeing
His life has ample to teach us
The greatest teacher, soldier and leader that can be
No one could doubt that fact
For Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna was he.
