In Memory Of Mark Brian Poem by Monesh Kumar

In Memory Of Mark Brian

(this poem pays tribute to a character from the novel ' I Heard the Owl Call My Name'. It is understood better is the reader has read the book)

We were typical Kingcome villagers
Till you came and filled our hearts
With the amazing and graceful treasures

We had little knowledge
Of the modern world far out
But you came and enlightened us
Of what it was all about

You endured all pain and sorrows
Without any fuss
So the elder acknowledged you
As one of us

I perceived you
As a lovely seraph
Who was sent
By the humanitarian bishop
To guide the people of all grades
And be the Jack-of-all-Trades

And out of a blue a day came
When the candid owl
Called out your name
Crying that the time of tear
Was almost here
And you tried hard
To have nothing to fear

And till your last breath
You have been to the villagers
So courteous and wise
Until Mt. Whoop Szo
Swallowed your life
And bestowed you
A tragic demise

Pain we do feel now
For your loss
As you were our inspiration
And angelic boss

And though we know
That death is inevitable
In our hearts those preaching’s
And that heavenly smile
Is impoundable

One last day
When this life is over
I know
That your cherubic soul
Beside mine
Will hover

Rest eternal grant unto thee
Oh Lord
