Father's Day (Thinking Out Loud....Version 1)

Rating: 5.0

Dear Dad,

I know what you'll say
Father's day is just another day
I know by now that's your way
When it come to attention you shy away

Well being a dad myself
I know what you say is true
It's unnecessary to put a badge on you or a ribbon blue
But you deserve someone to recognize you

Dad, you and I have not always been on good terms
I guess it's almost always that way
But I care about you much more than I say
And appreciate you and love you in my own way

I figure it's time to tell you because it's growing late
And I guess telling you cannot wait
But some things are served in their time
Of if at all, depending sometimes upon fate

Dad, thank you for all the things you've done for me
And all the things you try silently to do
You think I don't notice
But I'm always aware of you and care about you too

I realize you're working hard behind the scene
Preparing, organizing creating in ways unseen
And though you think it's all unnoticed
I just want you to know this

I treasure all the moments that we've shared
camping, skiing, golfing, painting and things we've repaired
I regret all the times we'ver shared harsh words
Only to apologize afterwards

Because I realize it's hard to be a father
Many never took the time to bother
Some renegged and escaped the tears and duty
But they never experienced the joy or beauty

In my memory are many sunny and rainy days shared
no matter what the project or activity was, I knew you cared
And when I'm feeling down or worried or scared
I tell myself it can be mended or somehow repaired

Whenever I pick up my old baseball glove
I think of you throwing the ball to me
Me throwing it back to me
And I'm reminded of love

Though you never quite came out to say you care
It was always hanging plainly there
And regardless of what you truly feel for me
I still look up to you as something to be

Because I realize now that 90 percent of care
Is just being there
And the other 10 percent
Is the friendship that we share

Happy Father's Day and many more!
