Father's Sister's Son Poem by ReNeE PoWlIsOn

Father's Sister's Son

You looked straight into my eyes
And showed understanding
That you just couldn’t disguise
What were you planning?

After I was gone for nine years?
And what happened to all my tears?
You’re not the blond-haired boy I knew before
And you know we can’t be together of course

I don’t know what to do after this
After sitting in this field of innocence
With the temptation slowly eating me alive
Will this heart of mine die? ?

I need to get back right away
You won’t make me cry
It seems so cold now
What put me into such agony?

Was it falling for my cousin?
I don’t get why my heart crumbles
Where has my heart gone?
You’re my father’s sister’s son

Yet will you take a look at what you’ve done?
Well aren’t you clever?
You know we can never be together
And you’ll never see

How much I really wanted us to be
But isn’t this how it’s supposed to be?
Don’t give it a second thought
Don’t you see?

I can’t be bought
Not by you or him
So I’ll never spend another thought on you
Because in the End

It’s not going to be my will that bends
