Fear For The World Poem by Geraldine PoynerHayes

Fear For The World

Through the hazy year of time,
Across the murderous seas of brine.
Floating through the skies so high,
Going round and round with a demented sigh.
Tell me why? Tell me why?

There is no sanity in our world today,
This is our life, this is the way.
Throats are sliced with an ease that scares,
Gone are the necessary daily cares.
You have to fight dirty or become unworthy.

How can we live with the atrocities we cause?
From squashing an ant to a nuclear holocaust.
Open your eyes, look around,
See the depravation abound.

When the troubled oceans of mankind churn,
Think! Long, hard, to whom do we turn?
When we are at our nadir,
Who will listen? Who will hear?
The Priest? The local MP? The business man? The beast?
Oh what a delirious feast!

Most live day to day, trying to sort through,
Happiness tears and pain.
As trying to winnow the chafe from the grain.
Will Mankind ever arrive peacefully adorned?
Or will my elegy be wasted, laughed upon, scorned?
