Feelings From A Running Train Poem by Kishore Kumar Das

Feelings From A Running Train

The train is running
and so is the time
so are we
herds of cattle
shrubs and creepers
all running virtually
the persons, houses, paddy fields, rivers
all remind me
civilisation is there
as it were long back
nobody is free from ageing
we are all running
towards the destination
and who knows
where is the destination?
hundred years later
people might be talking
a civilisation has been buried
the poverty, the style
the disease, the status
the romance
the sharing of joys and sorrows
the smile of the mother
the joy of the child
the vendors selling the eatables
the luxury cars and buses
plying on the road
the farmers ploughing the land
the people waiting at the level-crossing
the youth driving the bykes
nobody will be spared
from the final destination
the cattle grazing in the field
the labourers digging the pond
the train window gives me the running commentary
of the melting of civilisation
sooner or faster
and my eyes remain
as a witness
to the natural process of change.
