Femme Fatal Poem by Dave Holdcraft

Femme Fatal

Dusk beckons thee, Evening
In turn, thou heralds Night
Chaperoned by the Moon
At the Day's fading light.

A time sought by the weary
For it's when they enjoy rest
A time when mothers recline
With their babes at their breast.

Unto the man whose heart wanders
I present thee this warning
There is she who cozens thy soul
In the hours before morning.

Devoured by passionate lust
A harlot seeming so fair
None but the moon did illume
Her strides through the square.

Woe I say unto you men
Who've strayed from your wives
So fetching you found her
That you paid with your lives.

He that lies in congress with her
Hath made a fatal decision
Lo, her body a gallows,
And her chambers, a prison.
