Final Attempt Poem by Kelly Martin

Final Attempt

I'm swinging in this one way battle,
No matter the strength, I'll never win the war.
It's like your mind is set - it won't rattle,
And I'm left here to tally the score.

They say there's strength in numbers,
But here I am as the odd one out.
I'm playing seek while you hide as a distant lover,
And I don't think you want to be found.

Communication is key but you've changed the lock,
I'm doing all I can to break in.
You're scared, and I get it, but I'm fighting the clock,
And this time I guess you'll win.

I could say I'm sorry for the rest of my life,
But I'd rather spend that time doing better.
I'm getting gutter balls just praying for a strike,
In hopes that I'll be onyour level.

My mind is torn, my heart is shattered,
But this time it's not from overthinking.
I'm pitching my luck and you're the batter,
I wanted a home run but you refused to swing.

All my mistakes are on a constant replay,
Now I'm ready to change the channel.
This is my final attempt in hopes of making you stay,
Here's the remote, I'll let it be yours to handle.
