Final Destruction Poem by Sierra Booij

Final Destruction

Lighthouse keeper,
Stealing dreams from the sky
The Messiah of my fate
Destroyer of my faith.
I try to cheat,
To avoid the cold, calculating gaze
Of this evil, but my efforts are in vain.
I lose.
My body is offered to the keeper,
And I am chosen –
I must sacrifice my soul
so that I am pure and real again.
I stand before the keeper,
Exposed and fragile –
Shivering in the breeze.
Eyes like nothing on this earth
Devour and torment me.
I close my eyes, to blink away the tears
And wait for the inevitable moment to happen.
I hear him before I feel him.
Breath, heavy and warm upon my naked throat.
Fingers reach for me, to uncover the skin
That hides beneath my hands.
It doesn’t take long for the blood
To run down my thigh.
A white sheet is thrown over me
The keeper takes a final look at me
Before he turns away and whispers under his breath
“You won’t forget me”
That single moment destroys me,
For I know the dreams to come
The restless nights and the broken promises of my innocence.
I wish that I could die, so that I can sleep again.
