Fireflies On A Tree Poem by RIC BASTASA

Fireflies On A Tree

there are no stars tonight

but there are fireflies
teemng the leaves of
this tree
in darkness

o wo wo wo

the fireflies
are mimicking stars

but in inferior flickers

substituting
real twinkles

the tree in the dark
now begins
to look like
the Milky Way Galaxy

and look at you

you are nothing
but an atom
vibrating

making some assurance
that you are still
alive

in this mimicry
of the universe
