Five Tablets Poems
Kamarudheen Amayam
1
Never see lightly
The straps of a beach slipper.
It's only when we wear them
They become straps.
Other times
They are athletes,
Both hands placed on the track
Feet firmly placed behind
About to take off.
2
When opening a pizza box,
One is reminded of old music boxes
Steaming
Saigal, Thalath, Rafi
Begum Akhthar,
From someone's
Old records
One may suspect sometimes.
3
In the darkness of the cinema hall,
When one dips one's hand
Into the popcorn pack,
It feels like being
Trapped inside the skirts
Of a beauty.
4
When one sees
Dosa being made
In circles and circles on a pan,
It feels it is not dosa being made
But the universe itself.
5
After the harvest
The field lies cracked,
Like mother's feet.
Translated by Dr. MV Narayanan
Five beautiful short poems. I see the touch of light humour and a uniquely different view on simple daily experiences. Loved them.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
