Flames Within Poem by Aric Beers

Flames Within

For years the embers have gently glowed
Deep inside where they were carefully stowed
And sometimes life would fan a flame
As if burning was a simple game
I would burn whether for good or ill
I could give life or wish to kill
But in the end the embers never cooled
I kept them but the embers never ruled
However, the story took a different turn
The fires once again began to burn
Now I fight to keep the fires back
Though in fuel they never seem to lack
Sometimes the flames burn for something good
But other times they don't burn for what they should
I get heated up in a fit of rage
And the fires break out of their cage
Life has become a struggle to keep the embers thin
Life has become a battle with the flames within
