From a country that is war torn
People flee for their lives
The countrymen are gathering
Their children and their wives
As the world unites in floods of tears
When a baby was washed ashore
We need to help these people
And open up our door
They have to leave their homeland
Travelling many, many miles
In the hope that again one day
They’ll see their families smiles
To live in fear of bombs and killing
Must be terrifying
They’re reaching out as they ask
Help us live instead of dying
Let’s show them our compassion
Let them hear that they are welcome
We witness many crowded boats
We see how far they’ve swum
These are human beings
Who nightly say a prayer
“Let these people help us Lord”
We need to live somewhere
The children deserve fun and joy
But they've had to live in fear
They need the sound of laughter
Instead it’s bombing that they hear
For the people who seek refuge
Lets open our hearts and mind
Let’s end their fear, welcome them
With compassion of mankind
