+ Flying + Poem by Aparna Chatterjee

+ Flying +

Flying in the
Clear skies of
UK, I think of
My cousins in
India, flying in
The smoggy
Skies of Delhi
And Mumbai

I don't know
How long they
Can fly with their
Heads held high

(I wrote this poem imagining the plight of birds. Like us humans, they also seem to have destinies. Some are destined to be born and bred in countries having fresh air while others struggle to survive in the smoggy air of polluted cities.)
