Folded Flag Poem by Jon M. Nelson

Folded Flag

It's given to a family when a soldier has died.
It's a symbol of their service with so much pride.
It is presented to them and followed by a salute,
And they'll jump when they hear the guns shoot.

It's a symbol for those who've answered the call,
And it's a reminder for those that may fall.
It is only presented for those who have served,
It is considered an honor that is well deserved.

The emotions are intense as the preacher speaks,
And the tears burn as they roll down the cheeks.
All of the soldiers will have their own story,
And theirs has ended as they hand over ‘Old Glory'.

Our freedom is earned by their burdened scars,
And it's a reminder as we look at the stars.
But remember that their life was never in vain,
Even as our hearts will feel all the pain.

As the ‘Star Spangled Banner' is folded tight,
It's a constant reminder of the soldier's might.
As we hold the folded flag, it's a way to remember,
The proud honor of our fallen service member.
