Foliage Have Winds; Flowers Dew Poem by East Sea Fairy Xing Yi

Foliage Have Winds; Flowers Dew

By OUYANG Xiu

The foliage dance in the cool air;
The flowers enjoy the crystal-bright dew.
Two mandarin ducks as a pair
in the flowers under the foliage court and woo.
Their breasts have a ruddy hue.
Their heads are brocade silky white.
Out of jealousy of the two,
the lotus-seed-picking maid bright,
who doesn't allow them to be in love long flushes them in a fright.

Through the clouds shines down
a red ray of the sun.
It's close to the sundown,
and the lad and his loved fair one
starts to shun
as begins to sprinkle their umbrella a cool rain fine and light.
The water is getting cold under the darkening heaven
without any shelter nearby. ah, it's high time for you to go back quite
in case you're forced to flee in different ways from the site.
