Folk Tale Poem by Pavithren Govender

Folk Tale

As I walk through the valley, I open my ears and listen to the birds chirping, the river flowing in the down stream, the water hitting on the rocks fishes jumping in and out of the water.

The children are swimming and having fun. It's nice to finally be back home, traveling the country looking for medicine and herbs took five years.

The journey which helped us find what we where looking for and much more, we also discovered ourselves. We met many a strange folk on our path and learnt many a strange thing which we never deemed possible.

The folk tales that we use to hear when we where children seemed to posses some truth in it as we witness many wonders and amazement. The people we met on our journey where both Kind and vicious but yet we never faltered when we met with a challenge as for we knew our task and goal was to explore these lands and learn and gather as much knowledge and understand of medicine and people.

Through our experiences we have been broken down and left to consider our goals and self …there where many a night when we questioned our existence and whether we where on the designated path. But then we made it we reached our goal and we gather all the required material, we have reached home.

The journey was hard and tiresome we had times when we where about to give in and return empty handed but we stayed faithful to our believe that we can accomplish our goals and we have done just that. Home sweet home the smell of fresh air and fragrance of the oak trees was just what we needed to remind ourselves of who we are.
