For Colored Ladies Poem by Oni Lasana

For Colored Ladies

A tribute poem to Ntozake Shange's 'For Colored Girls Who Consider Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf'

FOR COLORED LADIES by Oni...a work in progress

This is for colored ladies who've considered going for what they know & getting what they deserve!

For colored ladies who moved on, moved out & just keep on moving!

For colored ladies who fight the power & use it to empower others

For colored ladies who have lost a child or having a child when being' a child is too much!

For colored ladies who considered giving in, giving up & just stop giving!

For colored ladies who considered changing careers when the j-o-b don't pay enuf!

For colored ladies who have left their abusers, when the abuse is enuf!

For colored ladies who considered to stop smoking weed, when unemployment is too much.

For colored ladies who've considered going back to school when their education, or GED ain't enuf!

For colored ladies who have changed eating habits when the weight is too much!

For colored ladies who consider getting married when the love making is not enuf!

For colored ladies who've considered getting a divorce when the affection is not enuf!

For colored ladies who've considered knee, hip or back surgery..when the pain is too much!

For colored ladies who have to take care of their sick parents when medicare ain't enuf!

For colored ladies who know the God they serve, when all other God's ain't enuf!

For colored ladies, who will keep on living, loving' smiling, crying, hugging, laughing, singing', written' poetry, dancing', drumming, tellin' stories, tellin' truths, lovin' & just bein'....
following the rainbow that won't ever end
on the road to everlasting life.
