For Everyone Of Us A Final Day Poem by Francis Duggan

For Everyone Of Us A Final Day

There is no holding back the hands of time
And for everyone of us a final rhyme
The will to live it keeps us keeping on
Though yesterday forever past and gone.

For everyone of us a final day
And 'twill not matter to us then what others of us say
Since we will be past any sense of care
With the earthworm common ground we'll share.

Though your accent is not similar to mine
We do enjoy the very same sunshine
And we hear the frogs sing in the flooded drain
And the magpie piping in the wind and rain.

We look at life through very different eyes
But as we grow older have we grown more wise
And though you will never be my enemy
We look at life so very differently.
