For Felix And Maxwell (Co-Travellers Of A Nomad) Poem by Osazee Dankaro

For Felix And Maxwell (Co-Travellers Of A Nomad)

Rating: 5.0

I have dallied so long in penning this:
A song of praise to two wonderful friends
Companions of my journeys across the earth
Companions of my life, companions of my work
This is to make sure you live and never die.

Together, we have traversed this vast country:
Sokoto, Yola, Gboko, Ogbomoso, Nnewi and Yenogoa
And all in between, unending miles and miles of potholes
It suffices to say, that we have gone through all the roads
That connects this country.

Felix, you are always with me, even when Maxwell is not
Even when we fly through the clouds,
When we sleep in hotels and guest houses
For without you, how will I have all my accoutrements

And you Maxwell, reliable friend
We have flown through the terrible roads together
Risky, dangerous roads, the most appalling in the world
Yet you never failed me
There have been a few hiccups, but you never failed

So, this is for you dear friends
And co- travelers
Between the two of you, you know and have carried
All the secrets of my life and all that is most dear to me.
You know me more than anyone in the world

Pardon my not writing this song when I ought to
For now, you have both grown old and weak
And even though it grieves me so much
I guess I will have to let you go
You, Felix, my bag; and you too Maxwell, my car
