For Judy Poem by Margaret Kollmer

For Judy

Rating: 5.0

Talk Radio introduced us
Then to the Phorum we went
We wrote and wrote and then some more
Until all our feelings were spent.
We told each other everything
About our loves, our lives
We gossiped and nattered and words came fast
Like a misshapen bunch of fives.

Almost eight years and we’ve never met
And we’re only 10 k’s away
But to us our friendship meant much more
Than to risk it in the clear light of day.
To this day we’ve never stopped ‘speaking’
As our frequent emails show
Even sending each other our bronchial coughs
Mr Gates, did ever you know?

With me so much the elder
Now, really, who ever would guess
As we laughed and giggled on paper
and making a glorious mess.
Our emails had lines perpendicular
With fonts of every hue
Yours would be green and I’d answer in red
And you'd follow with purple or blue.

What fun we still have as our monitor screens
Collide in colourful play
My Judies, for being inside my life
I thank you each live-long day.
I thank you for all of your funny mails
and for your care and your love
And I tell you now, my very Judes:
You’ve been the hand in my glove.
