For Maya Angelou Poem by Maureen Alikor

For Maya Angelou

One with a beautiful heart,
a wordsmith,
a mother,
an encourager,
a motivator,
a role model

Mama Maya,
I love(d) you from afar,
I cherish your works;
and relish your words,
I read you as I grew,
you spurred my every piece,
a worthy model you were

Mama Maya,
the sun has chosen to set,
just when my dawn was about to break.

Whom shall I tell this sweet bitter tale?
The tale of words and pens,
a tale of then and now,
a tale of now and of years to come.

Mama Maya,
Your works, I cherish
Phenomenal Woman, my best
the grace it bestowed,
a recap of the ideal one
I'll miss you physically,
but your works live on,
and forever shall not be left to rot.
