For Nelson And Jezreel Poem by CHIGOZIE DANGOL

For Nelson And Jezreel

From a distance your visions lightened my dreams,
Got my desires burning, fanning the flames of my poetic passion,
Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ were models... My Icons
The search is not over yet and
The vuvuzela would sound again in victory.
From the clutches of death and destruction,
Nelson and Jezreel we are not done yet
We will see another day and side by side wave together,
It is not over yet so don't fall asleep now!
Your sounds of music still so green
A light for the budding youth
I remember like no other such freedom which came at a great cost.
I know Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ still fight; even though it looksbleak,
Deep down the divide, Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ still reach out to us,
I know it will end someday,
There is much to be done so Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ must understand,
As Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ fight for that which is so dear
Clinging earnestly with each new day that comes
Know that life is good and Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ will live it,
Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ be strong! Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ be brave.
I alone am not able
But Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ are not alone,
A prayer here and a Naira there,
We can pull it through together
Nelson Mandela, we still need Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊!
OJB Jezreel, be strong for us!
We will do all we can
And together lay the rest at the feet of the Most High God!
The Greatest Physician
Praying Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ both a speedy recovery!
With love
