“for You” Poem by Fergal Dunne

“for You”

Early in the morning
I wake up from the drink,
I wish I could go to work
But my mind can’t even think.
The lights are still flashing
My head is full of speed,
The postman drops the mail in
More bills “that’s all I need”
Sun shines through the skylight
Children in the street,
I wanna write for you girl
But I just can’t find a beat.
I look at my cell phone
Wish it displayed your name
But I got making up to do
And I know I am to blame.
Middle of the afternoon
I try to find a cord,
My fingers can’t keep the keys down
And I’m praying to the Lord.
Wednesdays are so boring
There’s no notes in my head,
I’m looking at the ceiling
Cos I’ve taken to my bed.
It’s late in the evening
Your phone it rings and rings,
Then I hear your soft voice
And the music just begins.
There’s a melody
Rhythm and killer bass,
You invite me over
A night at your warm place.
Early the next morning
I wake to your sweet kiss,
These words are for you girl
Because life with you is bliss.
