For You Poem by Jeremiah Maclaren Maclaren

For You

For you I meant to walk on water,
Unlike Icarus, the almost-god,
Who, for love, fell to the sea.
For you!
For you!
Wave after wave,
This is not how I meant to be!

Lick the sea-crust on my skin,
The salt, the whale, the shark, the fin.
For you I meant to part the sea.
For you!
For you!
Wave after wave,
This is not how I meant to be!

For you I meant to write a psalm,
Unlike the hymns that David sang.
For you I meant to still the sea.
For you!
For you!
Wave after wave,
This is not how I meant to be!
