For You, Mom Poem by Katie Nelsen

For You, Mom

Rating: 5.0

When life gets hard, you're always right there.
To hold my hand, and show you care.
Even when I thought nothing was going right,
You always told me, 'Don't give up, Just fight.'
Even when I thought I couldn't hold on,
You would always hug me, and say 'Be Strong.'
That day when I was little, and I couldn't breathe,
You were right there to comfort me.
Or the time I was the Pageant Queen,
You stood up for me, when people were mean.
I know I act spoiled, and at times can be rude,
But that's never stopped the love coming from you.
I know that you love me, and I love you too.
Thank you for everything.
Thanks for always coming through.
I love you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
When I first wrote this poem for my mother, I was sitting in my Modern World History class on, Tuesday, April 24th,2012, at 10: 45 a.m. We were talking about the Holocaust. And how so many people lost their lives, families, & friends. I had a thought, what if I was one of those beautiful people? Or my mother? Or my father? Or my siblings? So I stopped what I was doing right then, and wrote my mother this poem. I almost lost her a couple of weeks ago in a car accident that could have been fatal. God was with her though, and now she's doing fine. I couldn't imagine being 15 and losing my mother when she's just 34. I love her with all of my heart, and I wanted, no I NEEDED her to know that. Sure, I know, I can be a spoiled brat, but she's always been there, and loved me NO matter what. This poem was very personal, but I felt it needed to be posted for every other teenager, or adult to see. Remember, your mom has always been there for you. No matter what stupid choices you've made. She's always loved you. Even if she was bad at showing her love. She won't always be there, so you need to make the best memories with her right now. One day, when God wants her to come back home, Can you look back and say, 'Wow.. I truly had the best times with my mom.'? Think about that.
