Forever Said Poem by Hayley Lewis

Forever Said

Sitting in the village, in the center of the square,
With a basket by her ankles and braids in her hair,
Her eyes though soft and patient,
Scan all around the streets,
Waiting for the man, she hopes will sweep her off her feet.
Her fingers fiddle nervously with the buttons of her dress,
Drumming little tunes on the sides of the bench,
Her lashes shade her tears,
But she never looks to leave,
Stubborn and sincere this woman will not grieve.
From behind the bench comes rustling,
But she does not turn around,
Suddenly appear wild roses in her hand,
A voice soft and distant speaks in to her mind,
Words that shes hears forever, and forever spoke in kind.
'For 50 years I loved you, from the moment that we met,
I feel our souls have melded,
Not a moment I forget.
When your eyes first saw me, how my heart did race,
Forever since that day, it has kept the same pace.'
'For 50 years we came here, to this bench, in this square,
The place where I first saw you,
Just a girl without care,
While the world around this moment changed beyond repair,
The girl that I found here still has braids in her hair'
She picked up her basket, the flowers laid on top,
Together they walked back to the bus stop.
