Forget Poem by Nia Schexnider

Forget

Rating: 5.0

I smiled today, at the thought of you.
It was one of those warm smiles,
The type that fills you with appreciation.
But then I missed you.
*
How beautiful and short it is,
This time, this life.
How wonderful?
If only we could all know.
*
The things we take for granted,
The things we don’t notice,
The people we ignore,
The friendships we neglect.
*
So precious are the days,
So soon do we age.
So lonely we become,
Yet we remain so dumb.
*
Oh if only we were as one,
We spent our lives intertwined,
As beautiful as it could be.
How soon we would forget.

I wrote this poem, for all the men who have loved me, for all the friends of forgotten locations, for all the ones who we cannot see suffering because of the masks we wear. This poem is for you unrequited lovers.
