I wish for you
To think back,
Before the time
We first met,
And realize you were
More joyful
Without me
in your life
I want you to
Forget, the days
We ever spent,
And remember me,
No more,
If you will…
I think that first
You should forget
The way I spoke
My voice, my words
And then the way
I walked beside you
On the path
And then forget
The way I smiled
And next forget
The way I laughed
Until the colors
Of my eyes are
Gone from
Your mind.
It is better that I be
Completely erased,
Better that you forget
I existed entirely
Until my memory-bones
Have turned to dust
And my face is a blank;
Wait until, I am a nothing;
Gone,
With the spring winds,
And the fall monsoons.
And then my name
Will be but meaningless
White noise
And the touch of my lips
And my smile
Will be nothing to you.
And the sand
will drift on, covering up
all my footsteps
where I once skipped
over the mountain passes.
And then the ripples
In the dust will disappear
And the future will
Walk upon the ancient’s
Marrow and I,
I will be estranged.
So, wait
my Corazon,
And If you ever loved me
forget me…just forget me
Please...
this poem is interesting in that usually the person who is hurt is the one that wants to forget the other person, you never really think about it from the opposite point of view, that a person would want to be forgotten, maybe in order to save the other from pain, in such that they seem just as determined that you forget them as they would be to forget you.
