We forget the sky
when we speak, when we walk, when we quarrel.
We forget the sky
when we eat, when we sleep, when we make love.
When a word breaks our necks and drags us to the ground,
we cry, we blush, and we laugh bitterly at our lost selves.
Then we lie down and remember the sky.
raindrops descend upon us,
freeing us from our false skins,
then a torrent weeps over us,
fot the oppression of bodies, for the longing of home.
A day outside the law,
when the earth bathes and drinks,
perfumed by the water of God.
Houses and trees,
a hut, pomegranates, figs, and olives,
doves and sparrows,
and the sea embracing its beloved.
We need you,
we, the humans and all beings.
And the earth is dead,
were it not for the sky.
