Forgotten* Poem by Thistle Wargul

Forgotten*

Forgotten, hidden plain in sight,
Ignored I our fight for life.
Desperation criminalising…

When you sit there crying in the rain
Thinking all life is lost.
When you see all good in life is gone,
Remember why you’re here!
The pelting rain, the snow, the sleet,
The blood-red dawn, the sun, the heat,
The rotting muck;
Our only food,
But makes us sick to eat.
We watch as if forgotten,
Envying the rich.
A bath, some soap, something to eat,
A bed, a stove, a family!

The orphan in the empty street
With eyes glazed and cold.
Pleading stares that pierce the night,
Are asking for you aid.

The frozen face that follows you
And haunts you while you sleep.
The broken voices whispering
As you hide under your sheet.

There are hundreds of us
Dying in plain sight,
Beneath your feet.
Thousands of us
Starving while you
Bin what we could eat.
Just look into the shadows
In the busy city streets,
And think how bad your world has been,
Like heaven against ours.

So many ways to help those
With no voice to own.
So many things, such easy tasks
Could give someone a home,
And a life…

When you sit there crying in the rain
Thinking all life is lost.
When you see all good in life is gone,
Remember why you’re here!
