Four Letter Word Poem by Denice Woods

Four Letter Word

Rating: 3.5

Love is a verb,
Full of action and doing,
Alive with adjectives and beautiful descriptions.
Love is just a four letter word,
A word that can make a person feel
like they're on top of the world,
Or wallowing in the deepest, darkest pit of despair.
Everyone loves someone.
Sometimes the one you love just doesn't love you back,
And almost always in relationships one person loves more deeply than the other.
Love is a feeling,
That feeling you feel in the hidden space of your essence,
Where only God is present.
People are placed in our lives to be either a lesson
Or a blessing.
I wish I could be blessed for once.
Seems like all I've got is a whole lot of lessons.
Love for me right now
Is a noun
Person, place, THING,
To gain back my sanity,
Perhaps I should sacrifice my King.
He is the longest lesson I've ever had to learn,
Even in his absence,
He has taught me so much.
I'm tired of learning this lesson.
Where is my blessing?
This love was just a four letter word,
Noun, adjective, verb
Words that formed sentences
Sentences that were lies
Covered by beautiful descriptions.
This love was just a feeling
That was one sided
Because now we're just divided...
And someone else has been getting your blessing
When all you did was teach me a cold, hard lesson.
