Fourth Of July Poem by Maya Raskina

Fourth Of July

The leading lady looks me in the eye, she sings.
Her flowery attire blends perfectly into the evening scene.
Pour me a glass of wine, tonight it is the only thing to believe in.
That girl, she used to be my queen.
I still admire her, the daring way she holds her drink.
She caught me up and saved me for a while or so it seemed.
This guy, he tries to chat me up in vain.
Poor lad exerts himself and drops name after name.
I try to be polite and listen, but my thoughts are all in disarray.
The vineyard glows as scarlet circle fades away.
Tomorrow our spirits will be gone, but we're alive today.
The lights go slowly down, it's our last chance to masquerade.
