Ten Miles Per Hour Poem by Maya Raskina

Ten Miles Per Hour

Rating: 5.0

Lived my life ten miles per hour.
Steering clear of deep potholes.
Feeling fallen, feeling sour.
All that glitters isn't gold.
Pretty face that hides emotions,
Loneliness is not a fate.
Better keep those wheels in motion,
Look for exits: your escapes.
Break the rules and pass the stop sign,
Leave the flashing red behind.
Windows down and let them lights shine.
Stepping on it by design.
Lived my life avoiding tickets,
So to keep my records clean.
Never sinful, never wicked,
Never racy or obscene.
Now I live defying mileage,
Glove compartment full of fines.
Disregarding all the signage.
Life is more than just ten miles.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have been going through some personal changes lately, and something happened that made me realize that I have been living my life too slow, focusing mostly on my jobs and other people's problems. Something happened that made me realize that I'm a human being with need existence of which I was not aware of. So I wrote this.
