It was like a dream, my eyes were open wide,
And there I beheld a captivating sight -
A bird, strong and beautiful, whose wings had been denied
The freedom they craved, trapped within a cage.
But now, at long last, the doors had been thrown wide,
And the magnificent creature took glorious flight!
She soared up into the clouds, singing and chapping as it ascends.
To meet the rest of her clan, her movements swift and light.
Yet as she ventured higher, a strange thing I behold -
Though free from physical bars, a problem still remained,
A tiny but strong rope that kept her from the sky,
Her leg still bound to the prison whence she had just escaped.
Ah, the bird may soar, but not beyond her captor's reach -
Though outwardly unbound, but still fettered all the same.
This truth, it cuts like steel - freedom is not fully achieved
When invisible chains yet bind, restricting as they tame.
God bless Nigeria, on this special independence day!
May the citizens know true liberty, no longer forced to bow.
May the bird at last be loosed, to soar o'er sea and land -
No shackles to restrain, no cage of limitation.
