Free To Go Poem by Nia Schexnider

Free To Go

Throwing off the robes of roles, I

Open my eyes and take my first breath.

It's painful in my chest.

.

The light is bright, I cry

Who am I?

.

I'm cold but my head is hot, I'm crying.

He says, 'I'm not going to continue lying...'

.

Words I can't understand,

Who is this strange man?

.

It's ok, it's alright,

A hug, a kiss, good night.

.

The light goes out, but I can't sleep,

So I lay there.

.

The next day, I can't eat,

I can't even sit up in my seat.

.

You give me water, to drink,

You give me thoughts, to think.

.

Somehow I learn to walk,

Somehow I learn to talk.

.

The day goes on,

and my tears stop.

.

I grow up, and finally I can see.

That I loved you and you loved me,

.

We all must be free to choose

Who we keep and who we loose.
