Friendship's Maze Poem by Edward Day

Friendship's Maze

The term seems so easy to understand and contemplate,
But when you actually live through it,
You realize things too late.
At first things run smoothly like the surface of ice,
but then they expect so much more,
And stop being real nice.
Those who are lucky find it comes naturally,
Then there are those who don't know how,
That's when their friendships tend to depart and flee.
People who are really nice,
They end up having a lot of stress,
And unfortunately pay the highest price.
Friendship is like a test,
You answer the best you can,
Then fate and the other person decide the rest.
So endlessly this maze will go on,
Until the day you die,
There'll be twists and turns and you'll never be done.
